Dr. Erica Cochran's leading roles in the Better Buildings Energy Data Accelerator (EDA) earned her an invitation to the White House for the closing event of the EDA program. Through the EDA, 18 utilities serving more than 2.6 million commercial customers announced what they would do or have done to provide whole-building energy data access to building owners by 2017—thus significantly expanding building energy benchmarking.  Energy data access and energy benchmarking are the first steps many building owners take to improve the energy efficiency of their buildings.

During the event, the White House announced new developments for initiatives related to building energy efficiency, where Dr. Cochran and the Center for Building Performance research team are also involved.  One of those initiatives is the Asset Score Tool, which straightforwardly assesses and reports residential buildings' energy efficiency.

Other SoA faculty and students involved in the EDA and Asset Score Tool project teams include Flore Marion, Azizan Aziz, Disha Andapally, Laura Biewesch, Juan Castellanos, Akash Goliyan, Parul Gulati, Chen Hu, Sasha Kerbel, Hetal Parekh, Noreen Saeed, Anjana Sharma, Soumya Shyamasundar, and Shengming Zhu. Through the Consortium for Building Energy Innovation (CBEI), the SoA teams partner with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), the US Department of Energy (DOE), and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), among other national and municipal entities.
