The School of Architecture is pleased to announce that Sarah Rafson has received the 2017 Ann Kalla Professorship in Architecture.
Sarah is an architecture writer, researcher, editor, and curator. She is the founder of Point Line Projects, an editorial and curatorial agency.
In her role as Ann Kalla Assistant Professor she will be responsible for developing a long-term strategy for disseminating the work of the School of Architecture. In the short term, she will be curating the SoA’s spring 2018 NAAB exhibition and producing the first volume of a new publication for the school.
Recognizing the need for a publication strategy to more effectively and more concretely disseminate the work of the school, SoA Head Steve Lee decided to search for a writer/curator with a strong architecture background to fill this year’s Kalla Professorship. “The school is extremely fortunate to have found a person with the talent, insight, and resume that Sarah has. Her vision for this work coincides directly with my vision for the future of the SoA and will have lasting impact.”
A graduate of the University of Toronto and Columbia University's Critical, Curatorial, and Conceptual Practices program, Sarah has worked on books with Kenneth Frampton, Bernard Tschumi, and Barry Bergdoll, and collaborated on exhibitions at MoMA, Centre Pompidou, Center for Architecture in New York, and the Parsons School of Design. She currently sits on the board of ArchiteXX, the New York-based advocacy group for women in architecture, and writes on a range of issues in architecture and design.
