Alum Carolina Tamayo (B.Arch '17) recently unveiled a set of new tables which she designed for the SoA’s dFAB Lab. The design and production of these pieces was made possible through the Burdett Assistantship, which Carolina was awarded as part of the 2016 Fourth Year Design Awards.
The $5000 award from the Burdett Fund is intended to support projects and activities that enhance the winning student's future work. Of Carolina's award submission (a retrospective of her work as an architecture student), Assistant Head Mary-Lou Arscott said: "Tamayo's development from her early years' work is evident. Her distinctive concern is to expose structure and to frame space in a lyrical way." This design approach is evident in the pieces she created for the space.
“The tables are a great addition and resource for the Lab,” says dFAB Lab Manager Terry Hritz. “Carolina did an amazing job throughout the process of design and fabrication.”
The tables have been well received by users of the space, and are already being put to good use by the faculty and students.
