Assistant Teaching Professor Ömer Karaguzel
The School of Architecture is pleased to announce that Assistant Teaching Professor Ömer Karaguzel has earned the WELL Accredited Professional (WELL AP) credential through the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). The WELL AP credential denotes expertise in the WELL Building Standard (WELL) and a commitment to advancing human health and wellness in buildings and communities. Ömer’s pursuit of this certification builds off of his interests in human health, comfort, and wellbeing in the built environment from the perspective of performance- and evidence-based design analysis.
The WELL Building Standard is the first standard of its kind to focus exclusively on the health and wellness of the people in buildings. WELL is a performance-based system for measuring, certifying, and monitoring design, construction, and operation features that impact human health and wellbeing in the built environment through the concepts of air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort, and mind. On a related note, Ömer recently contributed as a co-author to the journal article “Energy Modelling and Data Structure Framework for Sustainable Human-Building Ecosystems (SHBE) – A Review” published in the journal Frontiers in Energy. This publication is made possible by an ongoing NSF research project, NSF RNC-SHBE (Research Network Collaborative – Sustainable Human-Building Ecosystems), in which Ömer is participating as a Co-Principal Investigator. This project has spawned yet another project from NSF (DIBBS) called “Virtual Information-Fabric Infrastructure (VIFI) for Data-Driven Decisions from Distributed Data” in which Ömer is also participating as a Co-PI on behalf of the CMU School of Architecture.
