The School of Architecture is pleased to announce that Assistant Professor Stefan Gruber’s firm STUDIOGRUBER has been named one of three semifinalist teams in Riverlife’s ‘to be determined’ (‘tbd’) program for riverfront improvements under the Fort Duquesne Bridge along the Allegheny River in Pittsburgh. A jury of public art and design experts selected the finalists following a worldwide call for artists and urban planners last December that resulted in 52 submissions.
Each of the three teams has been awarded $5,000 to participate in a visit to the riverfront site and to conduct meetings this month with key stakeholders and community members. The teams will introduce themselves during a free public open house hosted by Riverlife on Friday 26 January from 12:00-3:00pm at Bricolage Theater, 937 Liberty Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh. During the open house the teams will gather feedback from attendees about the potential of the Fort Duquesne Bridge space. Members of the SoA community are invited to attend.
Once their proposals for the temporary installation are developed, the three semifinalist teams will present their ideas to the jury next month, with one team being named the winner. The winning proposal will continue to be refined by the team, with the goal of final installation under the Fort Duquesne Bridge later this spring. Riverlife is providing the winning proposal an implementation budget of $60,000. The temporary installation is expected to run throughout the summer of 2018.
