Rebecca Lefkowitz, recipient of the 2018 Gindroz Travel Prize
The School of Architecture congratulates first-year MUD (Master of Urban Design) student Rebecca Lefkowitz, winner of the 2018 Gindroz Prize for Travel in the Architecture division.
As she travels to Europe this summer, Rebecca’s itinerary includes the CityLAB Berlin Maymester course Drawing and Mapping Berlin, followed by trips to Prague, Vienna, Rotterdam, Brussels, and Paris to conduct her research. We look forward to seeing the results of Rebecca’s travels this fall.
Rebecca’s proposal explores the contradiction between spontaneous and deliberately composed urban systems, often juxtaposed against or superimposed atop of each other. She anticipates the final product of this project to be a speculative look at the “un-public” future city. A series of sketches, maps, collages, short essays, and a curated set of quotes and historic images will attempt to map oppressive political systems of thepast and present, to identify a future trajectory of specific urban forms, and to discover the as of yet undefined, virtual threshold between them: the frontier to the next urban utopia.
The selection committee extends its thanks to all of those who submitted proposals for consideration in this year’s call. The School of Architecture will announce the call for applications for the next award cycle in the fall of 2018.
