Remaking Cities Institute presented William H. Frey’s lecture "Diversity Explosion: How New Racial Demographics Are Changing America" on Tuesday, 20 October 2020. Frey is a Senior Research Fellow at the Brookings Institution and the preeminent demographer in the U.S. His recent book by the same name is the definitive work on how the U.S. population is changing.
Today the U.S. is on the cusp of becoming a country with no racial majority. Minorities, including growing minorities (Hispanic and Asian), will exert a major impact on U.S. society. Frey finds that without these groups, the U.S. could face a bleak future. Minorities are infusing our aging labor force with vitality and innovation.
