SoA’s M.Arch Program Earns STEM Designation

Carnegie Mellon School of Architecture is pleased to announce that our Master of Architecture (M.Arch) program is now designated as a STEM program in Architectural and Building Sciences/Technology (CIP code 04.0902). With this new designation, international M.Arch graduates are eligible to extend their F-1 visas for up to three years after graduation in order to work in the United States. This designation applies to both current and incoming M.Arch students.

All SoA STEM designated degree programs are characterized by a rigorous, research-based pedagogy with emphases on computational design, building science, industry and/or practice. The Department of Education CIP (Classification of Instructional Programs) codes for these programs allow international students to apply for an OPT extension.
