Commoning the City - MUD Thesis Exhibition Review
Carnegie Mellon School of Architecture
Master of Urban Design Thesis
Tuesday, 24 April 2018
10:00am-6:00pm
Location: Miller Gallery at Carnegie Mellon University
Students: Ernest Bellamy, Tamara Ariel Cartwright, Yidan Gong, Paul Moscoso Riofrio, Chun (Pure) Zheng, Lu Zhu
Faculty Advisors: Jonathan Kline & Stefan Gruber
Please join us for a public review of six Master of Urban Design (MUD) thesis projects speculating about potential practices of urban commoning, exploring opportunities for the bottom up transformation of cities around the world. The review is part of the larger School of Architecture thesis show Clearance on display in the CMU Miller Gallery through 25 April.
The event will spend one hour reviewing and discussing each project. Our special guest critic for the day will be Terry Swartz, Director of Kent State University's Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative (CUDC), and the keynote speaker for this year's AIA-Pittsburgh - Build Pittsburgh Conference.
The six student projects have been guided by a broader research effort about urban commoning led by Stefan Gruber as part of an upcoming journal and traveling exhibition: An Atlas of Commoning. The Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (ifa) exhibition, in collaboration with ARCH+, will open in Berlin this June. With the Graham Foundation's support, we will bring the exhibition to Pittsburgh next spring.
