Stefan Gruber to Present at 109th Annual ACSA Meeting After Winning Two Education Awards

Stefan Gruber will present at the 109th Annual ACSA Meeting March 24-26, 2021. He was awarded two 2021 Architectural Education Awards in the Collaborative Practice category for his studio's research for the travelling exhibition "An Atlas of Commoning," and in the AIA/ACSA Housing Design Education category for his spring 2020 studio "Cooperative Housing for the 2000-Watt Society.”

Group Exhibition "Human Scale Remeasured" Features Work of Stefan Gruber’s Spring 2020 Cooperative Housing Studio

Associate Professor Stefan Gruber has initiated an international cooperation between five schools of architecture that investigates Cooperative Housing for the 2000-Watt Society. They explore how to address the intertwined issues of affordable housing and resource scarcity against the backdrop of ecological, economic, and political crisis and design for more equitable, collaborative, and resilient communities. “Human Scale Remeasured” is currently on show at the Aedes Architecture Forum in Berlin through 13 May 2021.

Jeremy Ficca and Stefan Gruber Awarded ACSA 2020 Architectural Education Awards

The SoA congratulates Jeremy Ficca and Stefan Gruber for receiving 2020 Architectural Education Awards presented by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA). Ficca was awarded in the Creative Achievement category for his course Fabricating Customization, and Gruber was awarded in the Collaborative Practice category for the project Urban Acupuncture for Community Forge.

This talk asks many questions, including: What impact can commoning have on the bottom-up transformation of cities? And what agency do designers have in contributing to such commons transition?

Community Forge Playscape Wins ULI Pittsburgh’s 2019 Placemaking Award for Community Place

The “Acupuncture for Community Forge” playscape won ULI Pittsburgh’s 2019 Placemaking Award in the category of Community Places at the 7th Annual Placemaking Awards for Excellence ceremony on Friday 18 October. In Spring 2019, the Urban Collaboratory Studio led by Professor Gruber worked with Community Forge, a citizen-led initiative that is transforming a former vacant school in Wilkinsburg into a community center.
