Assistant Professor Dana Cupkova is invited to the ACADIA 2018 Conference Inaugural Panel Discussion on Recalibration. The Inaugural Panel Discussion directly engages the theme of Recalibration, and also features Monica Ponce de Leon, Gerardo Oliva, Benjamin Romano, Alicia Nahmad, and Paloma Gonzales, and will be moderated by Pablo Kobayashi.
The Association for Computer Aided Design in Architecture (ACADIA) is an international network of digital design researchers and professionals facilitating critical investigations into the role of computation in architecture, planning, and building science, encouraging innovation in design creativity, sustainability, and education.
ACADIA’s 2018 Conference theme is “Re/calibration: on imprecision and infidelity” and will take place from 18-20 October 2018 at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. ACADIA 2018 Mexico City aims to re-calibrate the discourse of computational design research. “Re/calibration: on imprecision and infidelity” is an attempt to build upon the already vibrant cross-border dialogue between the artistically, computationally, and technologically driven communities with the potential not only to re-examine boundaries, but also to provide for a moment of self-reflection. In the face of uncertainty, the idea of a recalibration could come to mean achieving a new level of understanding of the inherent infidelities of the systems in which we have been working and then embracing that imprecision rather than trying to impose a means to control it.
