Donald K. Carter, Senior Research Fellow at the Remaking Cities Institute and faculty member of the School of Architecture, will give two talks in Germany this month about his latest book Remaking Post-Industrial Cities: Lessons from North America and Europe.

Carter’s book features a chapter on the transformation of Germany’s Ruhr Region which, like Pittsburgh, lost its basic steel industry in the 1980s. He will travel to Dortmund, located in the heart of the Ruhr, to deliver a keynote address at the Gambrinus Forum on Monday, 28 October 2019. Hosted annually at the Technical University of Dortmund, the Gambrinus Forum is the highlight of the year, and is traditionally held in the historic Westphalian Industrial Club, where internationally renowned scholars address lectures to a broad, non-university public. Carter’s visit is supported by the Dortmunder-Gambrinus Fellowship Program, which was founded in 1993 to host foreign scholars for research stays at the university.

For his second talk in Germany, Carter will travel to Berlin to present at the Technical University of Berlin on Thursday, 31 October 2019. The event is sponsored by CityLAB:Berlin, a study-abroad architecture program of Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont, in collaboration with the Technical University of Berlin.
