The School of Architecture is pleased to announce that a recent project by Pittsburgh-based studio d’ARC architects, led by founder and president Gerard Damiani, AIA, an Associate Professor in the SoA, was recently recognized by Pittsburgh Magazine as the winner of Best Outdoor Space for 2019. The building, named the magazine’s Home of the Year in 2010, has been redesigned into an “urban courtyard” house with an innovative outdoor addition. The “almost European” style entertainment space features typically suburban amenities, including a cube-like pavilion, pool, and basketball half-court, built within the constraints of the urban South Side location.
Damiani is a graduate of Syracuse University, and has been in practice since 1990 and as principal of his own firm since 1996. He has been with the SoA since 1996, where he has served as both an adjunct and associate professor. Damiani received tenure as an Associate Professor with the CMU SoA in 2017.
More information about the award and project available in the March issue of Pittsburgh Magazine.
