Donald K. Carter, FAIA, FAICP, LEED AP will step down as David Lewis Director of Urban Design and Regional Engagement of the Remaking Cities Institute (RCI) at the end of the month. Beginning on July 1, 2019, Carter will transition to a new part-time role at CMU as an Adjunct Professor in the Master of Urban Design Program in the School of Architecture, as an RCI Senior Research Fellow, and as an advisor to Campus Design and Facility Development.
Ray Gastil will succeed Carter as director of the RCI beginning September 1, 2019.
“My ten years as RCI Director have been rewarding beyond expectation,” said Carter. “What a wonderful encore career for an A ’67 grad.”
Reflecting on Carter’s career, SoA Professor and Head Steve Lee said, “Don has done so much in the last decade putting the RCI on the map regionally and internationally: from Metro 21 to the Remaking Cities Congress to his well-received book, Remaking Post-Industrial Cities: Lessons from North America and Europe. I know he will continue to be a force for urban design in his new role as adjunct faculty.”
The School of Architecture extends its sincerest thanks to Don for his years of service and wishes him the best of luck in the next chapter of his career.
