Current SoA Head Stephen Lee will be serving his 12th and final year as head during the 2019-20 academic year. University policy allows for a maximum of two five-year term lengths for heads of school; Lee has already served one year as interim head, two five-year terms as head, and will serve this additional upcoming year as the College of Fine Arts handles several other headship transitions within the college. Lee will continue on as tenured faculty with the SoA following the conclusion of his headship. The goal for the head search is to bring this new person on board with time to allow for a smooth transition into the next chapter of the school.
We are eager to solicit input from our community during this search process, and invite you to share your thoughts in this anonymous, five-question questionnaire. The feedback will be used to help establish criteria for the evaluation of candidates, and to help us identify potential candidates as we conduct our search.

This vision will be outward looking and forward thinking while collaboratively building upon the SoA’s existing scholarly and educational ecosystem that values multiple perspectives and practices. The Head will demonstrate an integrative understanding of architecture as a field built upon the interrelated domains of education, professional practice, industry, research, and scholarship.
The Head's leadership will include:
Mentoring and contributing to a diverse faculty, staff, and student body;
Outreach to alumni, the larger university community, and colleagues in the architecture and allied building and technology professions;
Participatory problem solving and creative management;
Cultivating new donors and financial resources;
and a high level of dedication and passion for architecture.
