You’ve probably seen a dance performance. But have you ever felt one?
Anna Thompson and Taylor Knight — the Pittsburgh-based artists behind the dance duo slowdanger — have helped develop a multisensory dance experience that can be seen, heard and, yes, touched. It’s called “Resonant Body” and is part of the Carnegie Museum of Art’s inaugural artist in residence program, “Performers at Play.”
The dancers enlisted Robert Zacharias, SoA MTID alumnus, special faculty lecturer in Carnegie Mellon University’s IDeATe program, and the manager of the physical computing lab, to figure out how to turn their movements into vibrations.
Presentations of “Resonant Body” will take place every 30 minutes between 4:00 and 6:00pm this Thursday 22 August in the CMoA’s Heinz Galleries, and in September. Performances will also take place on Thursday 19 September from 8-11:00pm during the museum’s Third Thursdays: Intimate Subjects party. “Resonant Body” will be part of a series of activities and performances involving slowdanger, City of Play, and guest artists from the community.
