Ömer Karaguzel Appointed Merit Reviewer by U.S. Department of Energy's Building Technologies Office

Assistant Professor Ömer T. Karaguzel, PhD, WELL AP has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy - Building Technologies Office (EERE-BTO) as a high-caliber expert in his field. He was recently appointed to serve as a Merit Reviewer to evaluate multi-year and multimillion dollar funding proposals for the core R&D activities to be performed by a number of national laboratories including the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). 

As part of his duties for this appointment, Ömer will be attending two-day long private meetings in Washington, D.C. from 3-4 May 2018 to review proposals from the national labs for the program of Emerging Technologies (ET) with its sub-programs of Windows, Building Envelope and Building Energy Modeling. Ömer’s evaluations will be incorporated into the EERE-BTO’s annual operating plans and BTO program managers will use the results of Ömer’s Merit Reviews as part of their decision making processes. 

Ömer has 15 years of experience in building performance simulation and environmental design, and teaches both undergraduate and graduate level courses for the CMU School of Architecture.
