Dana Cupkova to be Keynote Speaker at Taylor X Symposium in Calgary

Dana Cupkova will be a keynote speaker at the Taylor X Symposium: 10 Years of Design Research to take place 20-23 February 2018 at the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Environmental Design (EVDS).

Increasingly, the practice of design requires the understanding and implementation of cutting edge tools for collaboration, design, and making. Taylor X brings to Calgary leading designers, thinkers, and makers across scales to discuss the ways in which research is informing contemporary critical practice. Speakers will discuss models of practice that integrate computational tools for the design and fabrication of projects that span scales and typologies. Over four days of roundtable discussions, workshops, and lectures, participants will engage in a lively discussion about the nature of contemporary design practice. Lecturers will present their work in the fields of Architecture, Public Art, and Making, and engage in a conversation about the importance of research and development in their work.

The Taylor X Symposium celebrates ten years of the Taylor Seminar Block Course at the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Environmental Design (EVDS). Each year, EVDS brings emerging designers in the fields of digital fabrication, design, and computation in architecture to Calgary to explore design research proposals and prototypes with a group of students. Over the course of 4-5 days, students develop design responses to an agenda described and facilitated by the Taylor Lecturer, typically through a digitally informed process of making. The Seminar includes public lectures and an exhibit of the work of the lecturers and the students.
