The School of Architecture is currently accepting applications for the 2019 Gindroz Prize for Travel. The annual award to support travel and study in Europe provides a $5,750 prize to one architecture student and one music student pursuing study in European towns and cities. Applications are due at 5:00pm EST on Friday, 30 November 2018. The winner will be announced in early December.
The award is open to full-time undergraduate School of Architecture students and BXA Architecture students in their third or fourth year of study, as well as graduate Architecture students in their first year of study of the Master of Urban Design or Master of Architecture program. The Gindroz Prize for Travel was established by CMU alumni Ray and Marilyn Gindroz to enrich lives and enhance education through travel and the study of architecture, urbanism, and music. It recognizes the life-changing potential of becoming immersed in a different culture, language, and environment. Ray, who earned degrees in architecture in 1963 and 1965, and Marilyn, who graduated with a degree in music in 1973, first met in Rome while studying abroad. They established the Marilyn and Ray Gindroz Foundation.
