UDBS was awarded the 2018 State of Pennsylvania Impact Design Practice award during AIA Pennsylvania’s 2018 Architectural Excellence Design Awards ceremony.
The Urban Design Build Studio (UDBS) was awarded the 2018 State of Pennsylvania Impact Design Practice award as well as the Bronze Award in Impact Design for the REACH Mobile Computer Literacy Training Lab during last night’s AIA Pennsylvania 2018 Architectural Excellence Design Awards ceremony. Fifth year B.Arch student Timothy Khalifa was also awarded a Student Award during the ceremony. Adjunct faculty member Christine Mondor of EvolveEA received a Bronze Award in Regional and Urban Design for Busway Futures: Penn Station Transit Plaza.
UDBS was recognized for the REACH project during AIA Pennsylvania’s 2018 Architectural Excellence Design Awards ceremony.
The architecture community from across Pennsylvania gathered to celebrate architectural excellence in the commonwealth during the event, AIA Pennsylvania’s 2nd annual digital design awards reveal on the evening of Thursday 15 November. The event recognized architectural, special, and student honorees. Recipients and colleagues from the Pittsburgh area celebrated their awards during a viewing party hosted at the downtown Pittsburgh office of Bohlin Cywinski Jackson (BCJ).
The 2018 State of Pennsylvania Impact Design Practice award received by UDBS, “recognizes an Impact Design Practice’s sustained ability to span a wide range of design disciplines that are tied together by a common goal to design and create a better world through innovative, scale-able, and measurable solutions. Impact design is rooted in the core belief that design can be used to create positive social, environmental and economic change, and focuses on actively measuring impact to inform and direct the design process.”
Fifth year B.Arch student Timothy Khalifa was awarded a Student Award during AIA Pennsylvania’s 2018 Architectural Excellence Design Awards ceremony.
The Impact Design Practice selection is approved unanimously by the AIA Board as well as the designated jury, which this year included esteemed jurors Carol Ross Barney, FAIA of Ross Barney Architects, Martin Felsen, FAIA of UrbanLab, and Casey Jones of Perkins + Will.
This year is the 10th anniversary of the formation of the UDBS. With receiving the Impact Design Practice recognition last night, this marks the 21st AIA honor that the UDBS has been recognized with. This achievement is a testament to the significant skill, dedication, and talent of the students at SoA and is a reflection on the contributions of funders, stakeholders, consultants, faculty mentors, and institutions that support these students and projects. Within the university affiliated design-build arena, it is a unique distinction that SoA students and stakeholders have earned in a relatively short period of time.
