SoA Student & Faculty Awards Call for Applications | due 19 March 2018 @ 5pm

The School of Architecture is currently accepting applications for several student and faculty awards. Applications for all awards are due at 5:00pm EST on Monday 19 March 2018. Please see below for more information.

Student Awards

George W. Anderson, Jr. Award
The George W. Anderson, Jr. Award recognizes School of Architecture graduate students who demonstrate through their work an exceptional level of attention to detail and dedication to beneficially impacting the community. In 2018, it is anticipated that a 1st place award in the amount of $3,000 and a 2nd place award in the amount of $2,000 will be awarded. Graduate students applying for this award are required to submit a Pecha Kucha style presentation that calls attention to the craft and detailing of their work. Burdett Assistantship
The Burdett Assistantship was established in recognition of Bob Burdett’s long and outstanding service to the University and profession. The $5,000 award is open to all undergraduate students pursuing their first professional degree in architecture, and is intended to support projects and activities that will enhance the winning student’s future work. According to its charter, the winner of the Burdett Assistantship “shall possess love of their subject, integrity, patience, fairness, and respect for others.” For more information, and to apply, visit: https://soa.cmu.edu/burdett-assistantship.

Alwin Cassens, Jr. Memorial Fund in Architecture
The Alwin Cassens, Jr. Memorial Fund in Architecture was established in 2016 by Diane Cassens Cummins (MM ’66) and Richard Cummins in memory of Diane’s father Alwin Cassens, Jr. (A ’34). The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support to students enrolled in the School of Architecture who are traveling on behalf of the School for conferences or other related travel in support of their academic pursuits in the area of public interest design. Faculty Awards

Margaret B. Gruger (A’41) Faculty Fund
The Margaret B. Gruger (A’41) Faculty Fund was established to support the needs of the School of Architecture and its faculty. It is anticipated that for 2018 there will be two awards made in the amount of $5,000 each. Upon completion of the project, the funding recipient will be required to make a public presentation of their work to the School community. The Margaret B. Isabel Sophia Liceaga Discretionary Fund
The Isabel Sophia Liceaga Discretionary Fund was established to support faculty-led projects that critically engage students and advance the mission and reputation of the School of Architecture. The award amount will total $2,000. Upon completion of the project, the funding recipient will be required to make a public presentation of their work to the School community. The Isabel Sophia Liceaga Discretionary Fund is open to all current faculty of the School of Architecture.
