The Carnegie Mellon School of Architecture invites you to join us for the Palladio Institute and Archive Exhibit & Workshop. Presented as the culmination of the Palladio Institute and Archive Advanced Synthesis Options Studio, this exhibit showcases the work of the studio in its study and application of rich cultural frameworks. Situated within the city of Vicenza, the building proposals consider how contemporary architecture and technology can integrate itself into the historic fabric of the Italian city.
This exhibit is made possible in thanks to the generosity of Mark Ferguson and Natalie Jacobs, as part of the Ferguson Jacobs Prize in Architecture, for their contribution in supporting the studio’s exploration into classical architectural traditions this semester.

As part of the conclusion of the Palladio Institute and Archive Exhibit, instructors from the Institute of Classical Art and Architecture will be coming from New York to hold a workshop on Friday 11 May from 1:00-5:30pm, followed by a panel discussion from 5:30-6:00pm. The closing reception for the Palladio Institute and Archive Studio Exhibit begins at 6:00pm in CFA Room 211.
In conjunction with Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Architecture, The Institute of Classical Art and Architecture will be holding a workshop for both students and professionals to introduce classical architectural design as a vital part of contemporary practice. Traditional architecture today encompasses work that employs the grammar of the classical language and the adaptation of its principles in regional settings. Presentations and hands-on studio and measured drawing will introduce the elements of the classical architectural language and demonstrate ways in which architects utilize the wealth of material found in precedents as a resource to inform new design. The Workshop concludes with a panel discussion, and will be followed by a closing reception for the Palladio Institute and Archive Exhibit. This exhibit features work by students in Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Architecture that proposes contemporary architecture adjacent to Andrea Palladio in the context of Vicenza, Italy.
