Alan H Rider Distinguished Lecture

Join the School of Architecture on Monday 28 January at 5:00pm for the first installment of our 2019 Spring Lecture Series.

Kipp Bradford will present “The Hot Earth Catalog: Solutions for a Warming Planet,” discussing the solutions he has developed related to climate change and the management of the impacts of climate change in his work with the MIT Media Lab.

THE HOT EARTH CATALOG: SOLUTIONS FOR A WARMING PLANET Humanity will require radical strategies to both minimize climate change, and manage the impact of a changing climate. This lecture will present a variety of solutions conceived at the MIT Media Lab.

KIPP BRADFORD is an engineering researcher working at the boundaries of emerging technology and industries. He is the Chief Technology Officer of Treau Inc, and is faculty at the Yale University School of Architecture. Kipp was previously a Research Scientist at the MIT Media Lab, hired as a result of the ‘Professor of Other’ faculty search for an interdisciplinary scientist. Kipp’s research merges biology, ecology, and thermodynamics to develop new ways to manage climates at every scale – from personal thermal comfort to global weather systems. His background spans biomechanical and electrical engineering, design, entrepreneurship, and thermodynamics; he has founded several start-ups in the fields of HVAC+R, transportation, consumer products, and medical devices, and holds numerous patents for his inventions. Kipp is co-founder of the Data Sensing Lab, where he led a team in the design and manufacture of a 600-node wireless environmental sensor network for Google; he is also founder of Revolution by Design, a non-profit education and research organization dedicated to empowerment through technology, and the Innovation Institute, an NSF-funded project that taught technology innovation to underserved youth in New York City. www.kippbradford.com | www.kippworks.com
