Announcing the Spring 2021 CMU School of Architecture Lecture Series Schedule

The Carnegie Mellon University School of Architecture is pleased to announce the schedule of guest speakers for the 2021 Spring Lecture Series, featuring Pascale Sablan, Michael Stone-Richards, Paul Lewis, Steve Kieran, and Sarah Lewis. Fall Lecture Series Concludes with Sarosh Anklesaria Mon 16 Nov

The 2020 Fall Lecture and Dialogue Series concludes on Monday 16 November at 7:00pm ET as Sarosh Anklesaria presents “Agency and its Affects.” Anklesaria is an architect and educator, and currently the T. David Fitz-Gibbon professor of architecture at CMU. The lecture unpacks the means and affects of architectural agency across a range of scales and geographies – from architectures implicated in the planetary production of food – to itinerant pavilions for less regarded modernist histories.

The Fall 2020 Lecture and Dialogue Series presents “Reframing Utopias: Architecture and Power, Equity and Justice” on Wed 11 Nov at 3:00pm ET. “Reframing Utopias” pairs Toni Griffin (The Just City Lab, Harvard GSD) and Shawn Rickenbacker (J. Max Bond Center for Urban Futures, Spitzer School of Architecture CCNY) in conversation to share parallel and differing perspectives on their work in New York as well as the larger general context.

Wilson for her lecture “Bulletproofing America’s Public Space: Race, Remembrance and Emmett Till.” Wilson is the Nancy and George E Rupp Professor of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, a Professor in African American and African Diaspora Studies, and the Director of the Institute for Research in African American Studies (IRAAS) at Columbia University.

Philip Beesley presents “Near-living Spaces: Paradigms and Methods” during the first installment of the 2020 Spring Lecture Series on Thursday 23 January at 5:00pm in Kresge Theatre. Beesley, a multidisciplinary artist and architect, directs Living Architecture Systems Group (LASG), an international group of researchers and creators.

Ray Gastil to Speak at the Final Installment of the 2019 Fall Lecture Series on Mon 18 Nov

Ray Gastil presents “Learning from Where You Live: Innovation and Connection” during the final installment of the 2019 Fall Lecture Series on Monday 18 November at 5:00pm. Gastil directs the Remaking Cities Institute at Carnegie Mellon University and formerly served as City Planning Director for the City of Pittsburgh.

Rami el Samahy and Chris Grimley join the 2019 Fall Lecture Series on Monday 11 November at 5:00pm for their talk “Imagining the Modern.” The pair are founding principals of OverUnder, an architecture and design studio. Rami, Chris, and Michael Kubo are co-authors of the recently published Imagining the Modern: Architecture and Urbanism of the Pittsburgh Renaissance. Copies of the book will be on sale during the event.
