IMAGINING THE MODERN In the 1950s and ’60s, an ambitious program of urban revitalization transformed Pittsburgh and served as a model for the postwar renewal of other North American cities. In their new book Imagining the Modern, the authors examine this era's superlative construction projects, addressing both the positive and negative impacts of the period, exploring the contentious legacy of buildings, neighborhoods, and landscapes that remain among the most powerful examples of modern architecture and urbanism anywhere in the U.S.
RAMI EL SAMAHY + CHRIS GRIMLEY are founding principals of OverUnder, an architecture and design studio. The practice enjoys the crossing of disciplines and scales, with projects ranging from the book to the city. Rami, Chris, and Michael Kubo are co-authors of the recently published Imagining the Modern: Architecture and Urbanism of the Pittsburgh Renaissance.
