EX-CHANGE 2022 Exhibition Opens August 29 at Carnegie Mellon School of Architecture

The 2022 EX-CHANGE celebrates projects from first year through PhD programs through an exhibition in the CFA Great Hall, on view August 29-September 11, 2022. The exhibition, designed by means+methods, led by Aviva Rubin (B.Arch ‘07) and Carolynn Karp, will be accompanied by a catalog designed by Group Project, Jimmy Luu and Ryan Menefee (DC ’08, HNZ ’09).

Announcing the Winner of the 2022 Stewart L. Brown Memorial Scholarship

Congratulations to Ankitha Vasudev, winner of the 2022 Stewart L. Brown Memorial Scholarship, part of the Fourth-Year Design Awards. This award recognizes professional promise in terms of attitudes and scholastic achievement. A jury convened by the Pittsburgh AIA reviews the portfolios and selects the winner. The award amount is $9,000.

PhD-AECM Students Kushagra Varma and Nihar Pathak Win First Place in Scott Institute Energy Research Poster Competition

Congratulations to PhD-AECM students Kushagra Varma and Nihar Pathak for winning first place in the Scott Institute's annual CMU Energy Week Poster Competition for their poster "Towards 4D Visualization of Urban Building Environmental Performance: Analysis of Manhattan’s Residential Energy and Water Use Performance Data." A longstanding tradition of Energy Week, the competition showcases innovative work of CMU’s student and post-doctoral researchers.

HUMANS OF THE SoA: A Paid Photography Workshop Opportunity for Students with Kemuel Benyehudah

Join us in telling the SoA’s stories. Whose work do we see? Whose stories are told? We’re looking for students to join photographer Kemuel Benyehudah in documenting life at the School of Architecture in April and early May 2022. This is an opportunity to practice skills related to community-facing and human-centered design work while gaining familiarity with photographic techniques.

The SoA invites applicants offered admission to the Graduate Program to attend a virtual Open House on Thursday, 31 March 2022. While the open house programming will be offered on Zoom beginning at 7:00pm ET, we invite you to visit our campus to attend the public lecture and tour the School of Architecture Graduate Program in person.

Carnegie Mellon Team Awarded First Place in CAWP Student Estimating Competition

Congratulations to the team of six MSAECM students on winning First Place in the Constructors Association of Western Pennsylvania (CAWP) 6th Annual CAWP Student Estimating Competition. This is the first time a team from Carnegie Mellon has won the competition in all its years of participation. The team received a $1,500 prize and the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of a jury of seven contractors from across western Pennsylvania.

"Monuments of Everyday Practice: Living Memorials to Gandhi" Symposium is Feb 19-26

“Monuments of Everyday Practice: Living Memorials to Gandhi” is an online week-long joint symposium and design charrette organized by CMU SoA, in association with three schools of Architecture in India. The event considers questions of design ethics and justice as these relate to broad issues of worldmaking, and in particular, to the contested futures of the Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad.

We are now accepting architecture portfolio submissions for undergraduate admission. Regular Decision and Transfer applicants must submit their portfolios to SlideRoom by January 15, 2022 (November 1, 2021 for Early Decision I or January 3, 2022 for Early Decision II). EX-CHANGE 2021 Catalog & Exhibition Launches Thu 09 Sep

The 2021 EX-CHANGE celebrates the 2020-21 work of the SoA from first year to PhD through a custom video game, exhibition, and catalog designed by Leah Wulfman (B.Arch '16) and Studio Elana Schlenker. The annual exhibition of student work will be on view on campus from September 9-October 7, 2021 and features live (and live-streamed) events.
