Environmental Justice and the Built Environment: A Teach-In

Architecture — as a driver of built environment transformations and inextricably linked to the mechanisms of racial capitalism — participates in the creation and perpetuation of environmental racism in different ways (through policy, abandonment, discriminatory practices etc.).

This set of conversations, organized by students and faculty at the CMU School of Architecture, aims to foster learning about how the design and planning of the built environment contributes to environmental harms that specifically concentrate in marginalized Black and brown communities, and the ways in which designers can work with communities to address these structural and localized conditions.
