Professor Francesca Torello presents this week at the first virtual Conference of the Society of Architectural Historians. Her paper, "Experiencing Architecture: Augmented Reality from the Museum to the Classroom," is part of the "Digital Pedagogies" session, which examines the long-term consequences of the use of digital technologies in museums and architectural exhibitions, and their impact on the teaching of architectural history. Torello's reflections stem from her work on the augmented reality experience "ReCast" for the plaster cast collection of the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh. The app was designed with SoA Associate Professor Joshua Bard, in collaboration with CMU's Entertainment Technology Center, and was made possible by a gift by SoA alumni Mark Ferguson and Natalie Jacobs.
