The new positions are effective July 1, 2021.
Joshua Bard Promoted to Associate Professor with Indefinite Tenure
The School of Architecture is pleased to announce that Joshua Bard has been promoted to Associate Professor and awarded indefinite tenure with the school, effective July 1, 2020. Bard is an architectural educator conducting applied research at the intersection of construction culture and robotic technology.
Francesca Torello Presents at First Virtual Conference of the Society of Architectural Historians
Francesca Torello’s paper, "Experiencing Architecture: Augmented Reality from the Museum to the Classroom," is part of the "Digital Pedagogies" session, which examines the long-term consequences of the use of digital technologies in museums and architectural exhibitions, and their impact on the teaching of architectural history.
Professors Joshua Bard and Dana Cupkova Publish in the Construction Robotics Journal
Associate professor Joshua Bard and assistant professor Dana Cupkova recently published an article entitled “Robotic concrete surface finishing: A Moldless approach to creating thermally tuned surface geometry for architectural building components using Profile-3D-Printing” in the Construction Robotics Journal. Their research is supported by CMU’s Manufacturing Futures Initiative.

Adjunct Professor Dr. Francesca Torello and Associate Professor Joshua Bard published an article in the journal Dialectic, issue VI: Craft - The Art of Making Architecture describing the development of Plaster ReCast, a mixed reality app designed to enhance visitor experience at museum plaster cast collections.
MAAD Research Video "Free-Oriented Additive Manufacturing" Presented at 2018 Robotics in Architecture Conference at ETH Zurich
The MAAD (CMU-PUM) research video "Free-Oriented Additive Manufacturing" was accepted to the 2018 Association for Robotics in Architecture Conference (Rob|Arch) call for videos and presented at the conference at the ETH in Zurich this past week. This video depicts a novel additive manufacturing application of fused deposition modeling on varying spatial conditions, deposition direction, and geometry to adapt to complex infrastructure conditions.

Professors Dana Cupkova and Joshua Bard were recently awarded new funding to expand their interdisciplinary research project titled "Profile-3D-Printing Thermally Tuned Concrete Panels to Offset Mechanical Loads in Buildings” from the Manufacturing Futures Initiative 2018 and the Pennsylvania Manufacturing Innovation Program 2018.
