BY DEMONSTRATION

An international exhibition illustrating the potential of public interest design.

UDBS_ByDemo_Film2

The Urbanism/Architecture Bi-City Biennale Hong Kong 2013 invited the Urban Design Build Studio to participate in response to the theme of “The Urban Edge” as it relates to the “Ideal City”. BY DEMONSTRATION provides an argument for a RE_EMERGENT Utopia, where change originates at the edge - in the marginalized and underutilized sectors of the city.

The UDBS’s work is rooted in built interventions that empower communities to take control of their neighborhoods. The appropriate and affordable interventions are intended to demonstrate potential to the public, inspire replication, and catalyze positive change at an urban scale. To illustrate the UDBS mission and work, the exhibit included a gallery display and showcased PURIFLUME, a built proof-of-concept prototype transported from Pittsburgh to Hong Kong. Through the exhibit, a new audience in another city is given evidence for a built-intervention-based approach toward the RE_EMERGENT Utopia.
