The School of Architecture invites all fifth-year Bachelor of Architecture students graduating this spring to apply for the John Knox Shear Memorial Traveling Award. Applications are due at 11:59pm EST on Monday, 13 May 2019.

inter•punct Call for Submissions: Pedagogy Zines

inter•punct is putting together a project discussing emergent and often radical issues latent in the educational environment that the organization feels are far too absent from current discourse. Following the footsteps of pamphlet architecture, clip-stamp-fold, and 'a few zines,’ the group is curating a collection of zines, and they invite you to be a part of this process.

Alumna Carolina Tamayo (B.Arch ’17) Wins 2019 John Stewardson Memorial Fellowship in Architecture

The SoA congratulates alumna Carolina Tamayo (B.Arch ‘17), winner of the 2019 John Stewardson Memorial Fellowship in Architecture, and Elizabeth Levy (B.Arch ‘19), a top ten finalist. The Stewardson Fellowship is the oldest and most prestigious award for architecture students and graduates in Pennsylvania.

New Interdisciplinary Course to be Offered this Fall Semester in Collaboration with wats:ON Festival

CMU will offer a new interdisciplinary course this upcoming fall semester in collaboration with the wats:ON Festival. wats:ON 2019: NOW. takes on the spirit of Activism, with artists and work tapping into the zeitgeist of our current climate to redirect culture. Students will work directly with festival artists towards the production of original work to premiere at the November festival.

CMU Women Featured in AIA Pittsburgh List of Emerging Leaders and Advocates in Pittsburgh Architecture

SoA Students Construct Official Entryway for CMU Spring Carnival

A group of 50 SoA students started a new tradition by designing and building the official entryway to CMU's Spring Carnival. The effort is led by SoA Pavilion Committee chairs Ghalya Alsanea (B.Arch ’20), Edward Fischer (B.Arch ’21), and Ryu Kondrup (B.Arch ’21).

MetaThesis SoA Thesis Exhibition at Miller ICA April 18-24, 2019

SoA Faculty & Students Explore Role of Architecture in the History of Computing at CMU

A new interactive installation by SoA faculty and students explores the role of the school in the history of computing at CMU. The installation is on display throughout the month of April at the Posner Center as part of a larger exhibition celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first computer at CMU.

SoA PhD Student Lola Ben-Alon Wins First Place in 2019 CMU Energy Week Student Poster Competition

SoA PhD student Lola Ben-Alon won first place, and a $1,000 prize, in the annual CMU Energy Week Student Poster Competition on Tuesday 26 March. Ben-Alon’s poster presented her doctoral research work, entitled Integrating Earthen Building Materials and Methods Into Mainstream Construction.
