Seven SoA Graduate Students Receive 2018 GuSH Research Grants from CMU

Seven SoA graduate students have received 2018 Graduate Small Project Help (GuSH) Research Grants from Carnegie Mellon University to support their research work: Lola Ben Alon, PhD-AECM Candidate; Özgüç Bertuğ Çapunaman, MSCD 2019; Wei-Wei Chi, MSCD 2019; Manuel Rodriguez Ladron de Guevara, PhD-CD Candidate; Jinmo Rhee, MSCD 2019; Gautam Thakkar, M.Arch 2019; Chenlu Zhang, PhD-BPD Candidate.

Gindroz Travel Prize Exhibition to Showcase Work of 2018 Winners on Nov 16 & 17

Join us November 16-17, 2018 for an exhibition of the work of the 2018 Gindroz Prize winners. The event features a performance by School of Music award recipient Ramin Akhavijou, and drawings and books by School of Architecture award recipient Rebecca Lefkowitz. Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn more about the work of the Marilyn and Ray Gindroz Foundation.

SoA PhD Students & Faculty Receive Outstanding Paper Award at IBPC 2018

PhD candidates Zhiang Zhang and Chenlu Zhang, and Professor Khee Poh Lam, recently received an Outstanding Paper Award at the 7th International Building Physics Conference (IBPC) for their paper entitled “A Deep Reinforcement Learning Method for Model-based Optimal Control of HVAC Systems,” one of only six papers to receive an award at the conference.

MAAD Research Video "Free-Oriented Additive Manufacturing" Presented at 2018 Robotics in Architecture Conference at ETH Zurich

The MAAD (CMU-PUM) research video "Free-Oriented Additive Manufacturing" was accepted to the 2018 Association for Robotics in Architecture Conference (Rob|Arch) call for videos and presented at the conference at the ETH in Zurich this past week. This video depicts a novel additive manufacturing application of fused deposition modeling on varying spatial conditions, deposition direction, and geometry to adapt to complex infrastructure conditions.
