MODU and Eric Forman Studio’s Heart Squared on View in Times Square

Heart Squared, an interactive cloud of steel and mirrors dedicated to love and diversity, is open to the public in Times Square through the end of February. It is this year’s winner of New York City’s annual Times Square Valentine Heart Design Competition. Alumnus Tom Sterling (B.Arch ‘16), Architectural Designer at MODU Architecture, is a member of the project team that developed the installation.

Christina Brown (B.Arch ’20) Contributes to Studio Informing $650 Million Plan to Redevelop Singapore’s Sungei Kadut Industrial Estate into an Eco-District

Christina Brown (B.Arch ’20) participated in a study abroad course in spring 2019 that is now being used to inform the $650 million redevelopment of Singapore’s Sungei Kadut industrial estate into an Eco-District. Christina and teammate Supratim Sengupta led the presentation of the final studio proposal to government officials from JTC Corporation, the Singapore Food Authority (SFA), and the Singapore Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA).

Jeremy Ficca and Stefan Gruber Awarded ACSA 2020 Architectural Education Awards

The SoA congratulates Jeremy Ficca and Stefan Gruber for receiving 2020 Architectural Education Awards presented by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA). Ficca was awarded in the Creative Achievement category for his course Fabricating Customization, and Gruber was awarded in the Collaborative Practice category for the project Urban Acupuncture for Community Forge.

Center for Architecture Explorations Now Registering for Spring 2020 Saturday Sequence Program

The Center for Architecture Explorations is excited to announce the Spring 2020 Saturday Sequence workshop series Changemakers for students in grades K-12. The program is now enrolling through the first day of the program on Saturday 08 February. Classes run for 7 weeks each Saturday from 9:30am-12:30pm and take place in the College of Fine Arts building on the Carnegie Mellon University campus.

Philip Beesley presents “Near-living Spaces: Paradigms and Methods” during the first installment of the 2020 Spring Lecture Series on Thursday 23 January at 5:00pm in Kresge Theatre. Beesley, a multidisciplinary artist and architect, directs Living Architecture Systems Group (LASG), an international group of researchers and creators.
