WAI Launches Online Conversation Series LOUDREADERS

Kalla Co-Professors Nathalie Frankowski and Cruz Garcia launch LOUDREADERS, an online conversation series in collaboration with inter·punct. LOUDREADERS is a cross between podcast, YouTube channel, Zoom meeting, lecture series, digital curatorial program, and online workshop that establishes networks of solidarity around the world while discussing urgent positions, discourses, and media about architecture, urbanism, art, and culture.

Daniel Cardoso Llach speaks at the CMU History Department on the Experimental Archaeology of CAD Project

Professor Daniel Cardoso Llach presented progress on his “Experimental Archaeology of CAD Project” to students and faculty in the CMU History Department. The project examines the development of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) systems through a combination of historical, ethnographic, and creative technology prototyping methods. 

School of Architecture Students Featured in Local News Coverage of Lunar Gala

SoA students Michael Powell and Vincent DeRienzo were recently featured in a TribLive article about local Pittsburgh fashion experts assisting Carnegie Mellon’s ‘Lunar Gala’ student designers. The annual fashion show takes place Saturday 29 February at 8:00pm on the CMU campus. The 2020 show, ‘Yesterday’, features SoA students in leadership roles and on a number of the design teams.

Spring Lecture Series Welcomes Liz Ogbu on Mon 03 Feb

The 2020 Spring Lecture Series continues on Monday 03 February at 5:00pm in Kresge Theatre as we welcome Liz Ogbu for her talk “Do No Harm: The Role of Design(ers) in Complicated Times.” Ogbu is a designer, urbanist, and spatial justice advocate, and an expert on social and spatial innovation in challenged urban environments globally.

SoA Head Candidates Public Lectures this Spring

All are invited and welcome to attend the public lectures from the six finalist candidates for the Head of the School of Architecture position this spring, where each candidate will present their work and their vision for the school. Center for Architecture Explorations Now Registering for Spring 2020 Saturday Sequence Program

The Center for Architecture Explorations is excited to announce the Spring 2020 Saturday Sequence workshop series Changemakers for students in grades K-12. The program is now enrolling through the first day of the program on Saturday 08 February. Classes run for 7 weeks each Saturday from 9:30am-12:30pm and take place in the College of Fine Arts building on the Carnegie Mellon University campus.

Philip Beesley presents “Near-living Spaces: Paradigms and Methods” during the first installment of the 2020 Spring Lecture Series on Thursday 23 January at 5:00pm in Kresge Theatre. Beesley, a multidisciplinary artist and architect, directs Living Architecture Systems Group (LASG), an international group of researchers and creators.

The School of Architecture will host smartgeometry (sg2020) June 1-6, 2020, a bi-annual Workshop + Conference that gathers the global community of innovators and pioneers in the fields of architecture, design, and engineering. The studio, under the leadership of Steve Lee in collaboration with Liza Cruze, considered the porch as the critical element of architecture mediating the realm between the building and the surrounding spaces at Community Forge in Wilkinsburg.
