B.Arch Fifth Year Zain Islam-Hashmi Has Designs for Fashion

As head designer for CMU's annual Lunar Gala fashion show, Zain Islam-Hashmi has created his niche as an architect of fashion, who creates clothing and wardrobe ensembles with materials like resin, cement, and plexiglass. He has taken advantage of opportunities at CMU and around the world and has shaped them into something unique.

BA Student Emily deGrandpre Presents App at Global Grad Show in Dubai

Emily deGrandpre (BA ’19) and School of Design alumni Joseph Kim and Tina Park developed the app Amica to help the partners of recently internationally relocated workers to connect with people and experiences in their new community. Emily traveled to the Global Grad Show in Dubai this past November to present the project on behalf of the team.

Applications for Anderson Award for Graduate Students due Mon 18 Feb

The George W. Anderson, Jr. Award recognizes SoA graduate students who demonstrate through a completed project an exceptional level of attention to detail and dedication to beneficially impacting the community. The 1st place award totals $3,000 and the 2nd place award totals $2,000.

Third-Year B.Arch Student Vincent DeRienzo Performs with Activated Anamorphs in Underground Festival SubSurface

Lending his making skills to creating wearable sculpture, third-year Vincent DeRienzo performed in SubSurface, an arts festival held underground in a limestone mine this past December. The movement-based performance featured costumes that reflect aspects of underground lifeforms and accompanied the musical group Exploded Ensemble’s exploration of experimental sound.

Urban Design Build Studio Awarded State of Pennsylvania Impact Design Practice Honor during AIA PA 2018 Architectural Excellence Design Awards

The Urban Design Build Studio (UDBS) was awarded the 2018 State of Pennsylvania Impact Design Practice award as well as recognition for the REACH project during last night’s AIA Pennsylvania 2018 Architectural Excellence Design Awards ceremony. Fifth year B.Arch student Timothy Khalifa was also awarded a Student Award during the ceremony.
