Spring Lecture Series Welcomes Liz Ogbu on Mon 03 Feb

The 2020 Spring Lecture Series continues on Monday 03 February at 5:00pm in Kresge Theatre as we welcome Liz Ogbu for her talk “Do No Harm: The Role of Design(ers) in Complicated Times.” Ogbu is a designer, urbanist, and spatial justice advocate, and an expert on social and spatial innovation in challenged urban environments globally.

Michael Baker (B.Arch ‘05) Awarded 2020 Highlands Travel Fellowship

The School of Architecture is pleased to announce that Michael Baker (B.Arch ‘05) has been selected as the winner of the 2020 Delbert Highlands Travel Fellowship for his proposal The Churches of Chiloé and the Jesuit “Circular Mission.”

Center for Architecture Explorations Now Registering for Spring 2020 Saturday Sequence Program

The Center for Architecture Explorations is excited to announce the Spring 2020 Saturday Sequence workshop series Changemakers for students in grades K-12. The program is now enrolling through the first day of the program on Saturday 08 February. Classes run for 7 weeks each Saturday from 9:30am-12:30pm and take place in the College of Fine Arts building on the Carnegie Mellon University campus.

2020 Spring Lecture Series Opens with Philip Beesley on Thu 23 Jan

Philip Beesley presents “Near-living Spaces: Paradigms and Methods” during the first installment of the 2020 Spring Lecture Series on Thursday 23 January at 5:00pm in Kresge Theatre. Beesley, a multidisciplinary artist and architect, directs Living Architecture Systems Group (LASG), an international group of researchers and creators.

Lipika Swarup to Present Doctoral Thesis Proposal Wed 11 Dec at 12pm

B.Arch Student Monica Toren Competes on Winning Team in Amusement Park Contest

Fifth-year B.Arch student Monica Toren was part of a winning interdisciplinary team from CMU that competed at the Ryerson Invitational Thrill Design Competition in November. Toren will begin a hotel design internship with Disney World’s Facility Asset Management Team in Florida next year after graduating from the School of Architecture later this month.

School of Architecture Ranked #11 in DesignIntelligence Survey

The Carnegie Mellon School of Architecture’s B.Arch program is ranked #11 overall in the 2019-20 DesignIntelligence Survey of Architecture Schools, and placed top-ten in 9 of 12 focus areas. For schools with 20-49 graduates, the SoA ranked #9 overall in most hired from architecture schools. Professor & Head Stephen Lee was again named one of the Most Admired Educators in Architecture this year.

The Computational Design Lecture Series concludes the semester with Athanassios Economou on Thu 05 Dec at 6:30pm in MMCH 303. Economou is Professor in the College of Design at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where his research focuses on generative design methods, shape computation, and computer-aided design.
