Seven SoA Graduate Students Receive 2018 GuSH Research Grants from CMU

Francesca Torello and Joshua Bard Publish Journal Article in Dialectic VI: Craft for Plaster ReCast App

Adjunct Professor Dr. Francesca Torello and Associate Professor Joshua Bard published an article in the journal Dialectic, issue VI: Craft - The Art of Making Architecture describing the development of Plaster ReCast, a mixed reality app designed to enhance visitor experience at museum plaster cast collections.

MAAD Research Video "Free-Oriented Additive Manufacturing" Presented at 2018 Robotics in Architecture Conference at ETH Zurich

The MAAD (CMU-PUM) research video "Free-Oriented Additive Manufacturing" was accepted to the 2018 Association for Robotics in Architecture Conference (Rob|Arch) call for videos and presented at the conference at the ETH in Zurich this past week. This video depicts a novel additive manufacturing application of fused deposition modeling on varying spatial conditions, deposition direction, and geometry to adapt to complex infrastructure conditions.

Joshua Bard Represents SoA as Speaker at 2018 Robotics in Architecture Conference at ETH Zurich

Associate Professor Joshua Bard presented two papers reflecting the ongoing contributions of the School of Architecture in the fields of robotic construction and additive manufacturing at the ETH in Zurich for the 2018 Association for Robotics in Architecture Conference (Rob|Arch).

School of Architecture Ranked #11 in DesignIntelligence Survey

The SoA's B.Arch program achieved a ranking of #11 overall in the 2018-19 DesignIntelligence Survey of Architecture Schools, and placed top-ten in 9 of 12 focus areas. Professor & Head Stephen Lee was also named one of the 25 Most Admired Educators this year.

Public Interest Design Education Guidebook Features Work of UDBS and PROJECT RE_

The recently released Public Interest Design Education Guidebook: Curricula, Strategies, and SEED Academic Case Studies (2018) presents the pedagogical framework and collective curriculum necessary to teach public interest designers and features the work of the UDBS and PROJECT RE_.

Recent Delbert Highlands Travel Fellowship award winner Louisa Jáuregui will present her project A German Paradigm for Reexamining Residual Urban Spaces during the School of Architecture First Day Assembly on Monday, 28 August 2017. The project will be exhibited during the all-school BBQ following the First Day Assembly. The events are open to all SoA faculty, students, alumni, and staff.
