Jeffrey King, AIA is a design principal with Perkins Eastman Architects, and has taught design studios at Carnegie Mellon since 2004. After receiving both a Bachelor and Master of Architecture with honors from Tulane University, he embarked on a professional and academic career with firms and universities in Sydney, Australia, New Orleans, Washington DC, New York, Munich, Germany, Boston, and now Pittsburgh. In previous professional experiences with Richard Meier and Partners, The Office of Peter Rose Architects, and EDGE Studio, Jeff developed a broad range of experiences designing and managing award winning commercial, civic, institutional, and residential projects. His work at Perkins Eastman focuses on design and research for higher education, multi-family residential, corporate commercial, and arts related projects. Jeff is an NCARB certified professional licensed in the states of Pennsylvania and New York.
Jeff’s academic and professional endeavors are closely linked, with each informing and enriching the other. His teaching focuses on the experiential, perceptual, and material conditions of architecture, and recognizes architectural design as first and foremost a deeply cultural and social act. His teaching has a primary goal of preparing students to be effective critical practitioners and creative thinkers within the challenging conditions of contemporary practice. He has taught first, second, fourth, and fifth year studios, thesis, and graduate level design studios, and has helped organize student trips to Boston, New York, Chicago, and Montreal. Jeff previously taught design studios at Catholic University, Tulane University, and the Boston Architectural Center, and has been an invited critic at the University of Michigan, Pratt Institute, Kent State University, Roger Williams College, and the University of Pittsburgh.
