Kushagra Varma is a doctoral student in the Architecture–Engineering–Construction Management (AECM) program. He serves as one of the thesis advisors for the Master of Science in Sustainable Design synthesis course. His research involves development of a 4D urban building performance data visualization and benchmarking tool to share benchmarking data. His work includes analysis of urban buildings benchmarking data, developing algorithms to visualize the information on a web-based platform, development of an intelligent retrofit recommendation generator, and providing energy reduction and decarbonization pathways for the buildings participating in Pittsburgh’s energy benchmarking ordinance. In spring 2021, he joined Assistant Professor Dr. Erica Cochran Hameen’s research group in the School of Architecture (SoA) and was awarded the P.J. Dick Incorporated AECM Fellowship. He is also a recipient of the Steinbrenner Institute Doctoral Fellowship 2022-23 for environmentally focused research.

Kushagra holds a Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) degree from the National Institute of Technology (MANIT) in Bhopal, India, and a Master of Science in Construction Management from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey. Before joining CMU, he was part of the faculty in the Civil, Environmental, and Ocean Engineering (CEOE) Department at Stevens Institute of Technology, where he taught multiple graduate-level construction engineering and management courses. For his service at Stevens, he received the Faculty Appreciation Award in 2019 and multiple letters of appreciation from the office of the vice-provost. He is an Associate Member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), member of the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA), and lifetime member of the National Information Center for Earthquake Engineering (NICEE) at IIT Kanpur, India. Kushagra holds several professional accreditations including LEED AP, WELL AP, and ENV SP, among others.
