RA, LEED AP

Adjunct Faculty

Katie LaForest is Adjunct Faculty with the Carnegie Mellon University School of Architecture. She is an Associate Principal at mossArchitects, a licensed architect in the state of Pennsylvania, and a LEED Accredited Professional.

She holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Virginia Tech where her award-winning thesis project of urban infill in Pittsburgh’s South Side neighborhood piqued her interest in the ever-evolving city she now calls home. She started her professional career with FortyEighty Architecture working on several innovative and sustainable projects.

Her work over the past 11 years at mossArchitects has spanned from single-family residences to mixed-use developments and from commercial interiors to urban planning. She is particularly drawn to adaptive reuse projects that capture the rich history and context of a place, while allowing for innovative design. As part of the leadership team within the collaborative design studio, she spearheads their equitable practice efforts and community engagement.

Katie’s fundamental interests lie in exploring ways in which the various scales of architecture – site, building, occupancy, and materiality – can be empowered to create a sense of place and belonging.
