Khee Poh Lam

Khee Poh Lam is Professor Emeritus with the School of Architecture. He is an educator, researcher, architect, and consultant who specializes in lifecycle building information modeling and computational design support systems for total building performance analysis and building diagnostics. He teaches architectural design with a focus on systems integration, building energy modeling, building controls and diagnostics, as well as acoustics and lighting. He has completed many major funded research projects in Singapore and the US, and his findings are widely published. He serves as a member of the Editorial Boards of Building Simulation: An International Journal (Springer and Tsinghua University Press), Buildings (MDPI AG, Switzerland) and International Journal on Smart and Sustainable Cities (World Scientific and Centre for Liveable Cities, Singapore).

He is a member of the Singapore Future Economy Council Urban Systems Cluster Sub Committee (appointed by the Minister of National Development, Singapore), Advisory Panel member of the Centre for Liveable Cities Ltd., Singapore, Advisory Board member of Delos, USA, Co-Chair of the International Well Building Institute (IWBI) WELL City Advisory, and a member of the World Health Organization South -East Asia Regional Expert Panel on Urban Health and Healthy City Network.

Professor Lam was a former member of the US Energy Foundation Board of Directors and contributed to a range of activities including green building codes and standards, education, and training, as well as sustainable design demonstration projects in China. He was also a former Board member of the Global Buildings Performance Network (GBPN), a globally organized and regionally focused organization whose mission is to provide policy expertise and technical assistance to advance building energy performance and realize sustainable built environments for all.

Professor Lam is a building performance consultant for several major award-winning projects as well as certified green buildings in the private and public sectors in Singapore, China, and the US. He was awarded the 2013 Alexander Schwarzkopf Prize for Technological Innovation from the US National Science Foundation “for exemplary research contribution to technology innovation and positive impact on technology, industry, and the society as a whole.” He also received an IBM Faculty Award in 2010. He was conferred the inaugural iBuildSG LEAD Distinguished Fellow by the Building and Construction Authority, Singapore in 2020.

Professor Lam graduated from the University of Nottingham, UK with a B.Arch degree with honors and holds a Ph.D. in Architecture from Carnegie Mellon University. He is a licensed architect (UK) and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects. He is also a Fellow of the International Building Performance Simulation Association. He was appointed Professor Emeritus at Carnegie Mellon University in August of 2018. He currently holds an appointment as Provost’s Chair Professor of Architecture and the Built Environment, College of Design and Engineering, and immediate past Dean of the School of Design and Environment at the National University of Singapore.
