DESIGNING IN PARIS, VALENCIA, HONG KONG, & HAZELWOOD How do we treat sites with vastly different challenges: overwhelming tourism, invasive infrastructures, and industrial migrations, while designing for future resiliency and historical respect?

KATHRYN GUSTAFSON is a landscape architect and founding principal of Gustafson Guthrie Nichol (GGN) in Seattle and Gustafson Porter+Bowman (GP+B) in London, with groundbreaking designs incorporating sculptural and sensual qualities fundamental to the human experience of landscape. Kathryn brings over 30 years of distinguished practice to her partnerships at GGN and GP+B. Kathryn lectures throughout the world and is a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects, an honorary fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architecture, an honorary Royal Designer for Industry member, a medalist of the French Academy of Architecture, a member of the National Academy of Design, and an honorary member of AIA Seattle. She is the recipient of the Arnold W. Brunner Memorial Prize in Architecture, the Obayashi Prize, the Chrysler Design Award, and the ASLA Design Medal. Recent projects include landscape design of the National Museum of African American History and Culture and the public plaza of Hazelwood Green.
