SEBASTIAAN KAAL, associate architect at MECANOO, has a vast amount of expertise in the field of housing, building reuse, and the design of exhibition facilities. His projects lie firmly on the intersection of architecture and the interior, respecting the presence of one condition while solving the other. “Architecture isn’t always about constructing a new statement," says Kaal, "but sometimes reinterpreting the statement of something that is already there.” Recently, Sebastiaan has been working on the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in Washington DC. He graduated in 1996 from the Technical University of Delft, and teaches there now on a regular basis.
